- 5Build toward a 2048 tile, then keep going. Undo and Hint stay on the toolbar.
About this game
Extra room on a 5x5 grid. Same merge rules as classic 2048, longer builds, more space to recover.
Twenty-five cells instead of sixteen. You still slide every tile, merge equals once per move, and spawn one 2 (or a 4 about one time in ten) after a real move — not two new tiles per turn. The extra row and column are the whole change, and they change the feel. A bad swipe is recoverable. A high tile can sit in a corner while you clean a side.
The first celebration is still a 2048 tile, same as the original 4x4. The board is easier to keep alive, so long runs are the point: 4096 and higher if you stay organized. This page is only the 5x5. It is not a size switcher and it is not the Classic game.
If you want the original 4x4, that is /2d/puzzle/2048. If nine cells sound more honest, the 3x3 is at /2d/puzzle/2048-3x3. One size up is the 6x6 at /2d/puzzle/2048-6x6.
Play on a phone with a swipe or the on-screen pad, or at a desk with arrows and WASD. Undo and Hint are local. Scores go to your InstantGameBox board, not into the game's localStorage.

5x5 2048 FAQ
How is 5x5 different from the original 4x4?
Twenty-five cells instead of sixteen. Same once-per-tile merge and the same 90/10 spawn. One new tile per turn. The extra row and column give you room to recover. Classic 4x4 is /2d/puzzle/2048.
Is 5x5 easier?
It is more forgiving. A bad swipe is less often fatal. Long builds are the point. If you want the tight board, play 3x3 2048 at /2d/puzzle/2048-3x3.
What about 6x6?
One size up is the 6x6 at /2d/puzzle/2048-6x6 — a longer run with more planning. This page stays on the 5x5.
Do you spawn two tiles per turn on 5x5?
No. After every real slide, one new 2 appears — or a 4 about one time in ten. Same spawn as Classic.
Can I play 5x5 2048 with a keyboard?
Yes. Arrows and WASD on a computer. Swipe or the on-screen pad on a phone.
