How to play

  1. 1Tap Play. Two tiles sit on a 64-cell board.
  2. 2Swipe, pad, or arrows / WASD slide every tile.
  3. 3Same merge rule as Classic: one merge per tile per move.
  4. 4On a phone the cells are small — use the pad if swipes feel cramped.
  5. 5Organize the field or small tiles will bury you. First celebration is 2048. Undo and Hint are on the toolbar.

About this game

Sixty-four cells. Classic 2048 rules on a huge board — organize the field, or the small tiles will bury you.

An 8x8 grid is chessboard-scale. Survival is cheap at the start. The loss is disorder: a spray of 2s and 4s that block the lanes you need for the high tiles. Same merge rule as the original 4x4. Same 90/10 spawn. The first celebration is still 2048; the board will let you go much higher if you keep a corner and a clean edge.

On a phone the cells get small. Use the on-screen pad if swipes feel cramped. Hint is one ply deep so the device stays responsive. Undo is unlimited in free play.

If you want a long run that is not this wide, the 6x6 is at /2d/puzzle/2048-6x6. The original 4x4 is at /2d/puzzle/2048. This page is only the huge board.

A typical session is longer than Classic. There is no download and no account wall. Open the page, tap Play, and start sorting the field before the small tiles take over.

8x8 2048 FAQ

Why play 8x8 instead of the original 4x4?

You want a huge field and a long sorting problem, not a tight survival puzzle. Classic 4x4 is /2d/puzzle/2048. This page is only the 8x8.

Does 8x8 2048 work on a phone?

Yes. The cells get small. Use the on-screen pad if swipes feel cramped. Landscape helps.

What is the goal tile on this board?

The first celebration is 2048, same as Classic. Extra space makes that tile easier; the real work is keeping the field organized after it.

How is 8x8 different from 6x6?

Twenty-eight extra cells and a wider mess if you ignore order. One size down is /2d/puzzle/2048-6x6.

Do scores stay on this page?

Yes. The run posts to 8x8 2048. It does not mix with Classic or the 6x6.
