How to play
- 1Choose Single player vs AI, or Multiplayer on two devices (Invite or Anyone).
- 2Players alternate placing. Each person may hold only three marks on the board.
- 3After your third mark is down, tap one of your marks, then an empty square to slide it.
- 4Three in a row — across, down, or diagonal — wins. The board never fills; play continues until someone lines up.
- 5Vs AI: tap the difficulty label under the board. Invite: share the link, QR, or six-character code (type it on Invite). Anyone: public table. Online turns are validated on the server.
About this game
Trio Shift is an original three-token grid duel. It is not classic unlimited-mark tic-tac-toe: each player places only three spots, then relocates one of those marks on every later turn until someone wins.
The first six turns feel familiar — empty squares, X then O. Once both sides have three tokens, the empty cells stay empty forever unless a mark slides into them. That sliding step is the whole hook: you cannot drop a fourth piece, so you have to break your own line to chase a better one.
Single player is you versus AI at four difficulties. Multiplayer is two people on two devices, public or private, with server-checked places and slides. There is no pass-and-play on one phone.

Trio Shift FAQ
Is Trio Shift the same as tic-tac-toe?
No. Classic tic-tac-toe lets you keep placing until the board is full. Trio Shift caps each player at three marks, then you slide an existing mark into an empty square until someone gets three in a row.
Is Trio Shift free?
Yes. Open the page and tap Play. No account or download.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap squares to place or slide. Play goes fullscreen with a CSS fallback on iOS.
Can two people play on one device?
No. Single player is versus AI. A second human needs Multiplayer on two devices.
Can I play Trio Shift with a friend online?
Yes. Choose Multiplayer, then Invite. Share the link, QR, or six-character code — they can type the code on Invite. Or pick Anyone for an open table. Both players need their own device or browser tab.
Does Play go fullscreen?
Yes. Native fullscreen first, CSS fallback on iOS. Back restores this page.
