About this game
Tetris is a falling-block puzzle you can play in the browser: a 10×20 well, seven pieces, and a rising stack that only gives way when you complete a line. Slide a piece, rotate it, and drop it. A full row vanishes. Four rows at once is the big score. The run ends when a new piece cannot enter the well.
This InstantGameBox version plays by modern guideline-style rules. Pieces come from a 7-bag randomizer, so each set of seven contains I, O, T, L, J, S, and Z exactly once. A ghost shows where the live piece will land. Hold stores one piece until you need it — once per drop. The next three pieces sit in the queue. Soft drop awards one point per cell; a hard drop awards two and locks. Line clears score 100, 300, 500, or 800 times the current level. Level rises every ten lines, and gravity speeds up with a floor so phones stay playable.
On a phone, swipe left or right to move, swipe down to soft drop, and tap or swipe up to rotate. Hold and Hard drop are buttons above the well. At a desk, arrows move, up / X / W rotate clockwise, Z or Ctrl rotate the other way, down soft-drops, Space hard-drops, C holds, P pauses, and R restarts. There is no on-screen joystick.
When a run ends, the shell records your score and personal best on this device. A mid-run board can come back through the shell save if you leave and return.

Tetris FAQ
Is this Tetris free to play in the browser?
Yes. Open the page and tap Play. You do not need an account or a download.
How do I play Tetris on a phone?
Swipe left or right to move, swipe down to soft drop, and tap or swipe up to rotate. Hold and Hard drop are buttons above the well. Play goes fullscreen on a phone.
What is hold?
Hold stores the current piece and brings back the one you stored last — or the next piece if the slot is empty. You can hold once per drop, then again after the piece locks.
How do scores and best scores work?
Soft drop is +1 per cell, hard drop is +2 per cell, and line clears are 100, 300, 500, or 800 times your level. When a run ends, the shell posts the score. Personal best is stored on this device by the InstantGameBox shell.
Does the game save my progress?
A mid-run board can come back if you leave and return. Finished scores are stored as your personal best on this device.
